After Sendai, Ishinomaki is the second most populous city in Miyagi Prefecture. Ishinomaki is a coastal city situated at the mouth of the Kitakami River looking out across Ishinomaki Bay to the Pacific Ocean, with many of the fisheries and marine products processing plants that characterize the northeastern region of Japan. The lovely islands of Matsushima, considered to be one of the three great scenic views in Japan, is located nearby.
